Is work experience in a healthcare setting required or recommended?

Relevant work or voluntary experience is not a requirement. However, it may strengthen your application.

How are personal statements used in the selection process?

Personal statements help demonstrate an applicant鈥檚 interest in medicine and suitability for the course. They should be medicine-focused, well written, and include any relevant work or voluntary experience.

How important is a reference for my application?

A reference is an important part of your application to the Medicine degree. It provides insight into your academic ability, personal qualities, and suitability for a medicine career from someone who knows you in an educational or professional context.

Does Bangor consider resits?

We will only accept Level 2 (e.g. GCSE) resits completed within 12 months of the original sitting. These must be completed prior to application. The exception to this is English Language which has no time limit for resit but must be included as achieved or pending on the application form.

We do not accept Level 3 (e.g. A Level) resits. However, it should be noted that we do not consider exams taken after centre assessed grades to be re-sits.

Re-sits of A Level module units will be considered provided that the final exam has not already taken place, and a grade awarded.

Only one re-sit permitted per qualification.

Are contextual offers available?

Applicants who meet the requirements for a contextual offer may be made a contextual offer of AAB with compulsory sciences at A grade.

What are you doing to help with widening participation for applicants living in Wales?

Applicants who can demonstrate a Welsh First or Second Language GCSE may be made a contextual offer of AAB with compulsory sciences at A grade.

Do you prioritise or allocate a specific number of places to Welsh applicants over those from other UK nations?

We do not allocate a quota for Welsh applicants.

I have missed the UCAS application deadline to apply for Medicine. Can I still apply?

Unfortunately, if you do not apply before the UCAS deadline for medicine, we cannot consider an application from you.

Is a DBS check required?

If your application is successful, you will be required to complete a DBS (Disclosure Barring Service) before admission to the course.

If you have a relevant criminal conviction, this will be stated in the check and may affect your ability to enrol on the course. Applicants who are on the barred list should be aware that applying to this course is likely to be considered a criminal offence. Those with criminal convictions who are not on the barred list should contact us prior to application.

Is a health check required?

Before starting the course, all successful applicants will be required to undergo a health check, including screening for blood-borne viruses and tuberculosis, by our Occupational Health Service. If you are non-immune to Hepatitis B, you will need to complete a full immunisation programme before taking part in clinical procedures. Having a blood-borne virus or other infectious diseases won鈥檛 prevent you from completing this course and obtaining General Medical Council registration, but some specialities won鈥檛 be open to you during training or in your career. If you have a health issue that you think might have an impact on your ability to study or practise, please contact us before applying.

What should I do if I have previously enrolled on another Medicine degree?

Those who have previously studied medicine or other professional health programmes are required to notify us prior to application. If you did not complete your course due to criminal convictions or academic failure you should email us prior to application. If you did not complete your course for health reasons you should contact medicineconfidential@bangor.ac.uk prior to application.

Where will I be based throughout the course?

Your main campus will be Bangor. However, please note that your campus may change to Wrexham during year 3, 4 and 5 depending on placement.

Is the 缅北强奸 medicine degree GMC-accredited?

The North Wales Medical School curriculum has been academically validated by the Quality and Validation unit of 缅北强奸 through a process involving external medical educational expertise. All UK medical schools are regularly reviewed by the General Medical Council (GMC), the professional regulator for Medicine responsible for ensuring high standards for medical education detailed in their document 鈥淧romoting excellence: standards for medical education and training鈥. In addition, all new medical schools are subject to rigorous scrutiny by the GMC. The North Wales Medical School is progressing through the GMC approval process to award a Primary Medical Qualification. GMC accreditation is only completed when the first intake of students is due to graduate. To protect students, new medical schools must work with a 鈥榗ontingency鈥 partner, an established medical school able to provide support and willing, if GMC quality standards are not met for any reason, for students to transfer and graduate from the contingency school. Will there be places available for medicine in clearing?

It is not possible to determine whether we will have places available in clearing until A Level result day. Should you have an interest in any places that may become available, we ask that you complete this and we will contact you in the event of availability. Please refrain from calling our helpline for medicine on results day.

Interviews

What is your selection criteria process for interview consideration?

Applicants who meet our entry requirements are pooled together and ranked by UCAT score highest to lowest. Interviews are offered to those with the highest UCAT scores within the pool until slots are filled.

When will I receive an invite to interview?

Invites will be sent out before the end of November.

Are interviews held online or in person?

Interviews are held in person in Bangor.

Can I have my interview online instead?

For fairness and consistency to the experience of all applicants, interviews will be held in-person only.

Is it possible to change date once booked?

Interview slots are booked and filled very quickly. Applicants will only be able to change slots if another slot is available on the booking system. Applicants should be aware that they will need to cancel their current slot before being able to book their new slot. This opens the risk of losing both your current and new slot should other applicants be in the booking system at the same time.

In the event of illness, or other extenuating circumstance which prevents an applicant from participating in the interview, the applicant must contact us prior to their interview time. We will do our best to arrange an alternative interview date, but this cannot be guaranteed, and we may not be able to rebook your interview.

Are there any interview preparation resources offered by the university?

What should I do if I need reasonable adjustments for the interview?

Where can I park?

Parking will be available on the day with directions provided. In the event of a building change, we will endeavour to accommodate parking where we are able to. However, a map of alternative parking can be found . Vehicles are parked entirely at the owner鈥檚 risk. We accept no responsibility for any loss, theft or damage to vehicles or their contents, whether on campus or at external parking locations.

Can I travel by train?

Yes, you can travel to Bangor by train. Please ensure that you check train times and ensure that you have enough time to travel from the train station to the interview building.

What happens on the day?

On arrival, you will be welcomed and will undergo an ID check with your passport or driving license. Any applicants who are yet to provide copies of their qualifications will have these assessed and scanned at this point. You will then be asked to move into an applicant room where you will be briefed. Following your briefing, you will move to the interview room. All personal items, including mobile phones, will be left in the applicant room during your interview. Following your interview, you will return to the applicant room for a debrief. An optional tour, with the opportunity to ask current medical students questions, will then follow. Parents or other family members who have travelling with you are also welcome to join the tour.

How long does the interview last and what does it involve?

The interview should last around one hour. The interview involves rotating around six verbal stations with two questions per verbal station. You will be given three minutes to answer each question. There will also be three minutes between each station to read the next set of two questions and to consider your answers.

Are pen and paper allowed in the interview?

No.

Can I bring my personal belongings, including my mobile phone into the interview room?

All personal belongings, including mobile phones should be left in the designated area during your interview.

Can I bring water into the interview?

Yes.

What are my options if I am unsuccessful at interview?

All unsuccessful applicants will be offered an alternative course where appropriate or rejected.

The alterative course offered will usually be BMedSci (Hons) Medical Sciences (B100). This course is a feeder stream for our Graduate Entry Medicine degree (A101). Applicants would be expected to achieve a class of 2.1 and meet all other entry requirements. Completion of one of our feeder streams does not guarantee and interview or place for our Graduate Entry Medicine degree (A101).

RPEL Entrance Exam

Can I have my exam online instead?

For fairness and consistency to the experience of all applicants, all exams will be held in-person only.

Are there any considerations for those eligible for 25% extra time in usual exams during the A101 RPEL route exam paper?

If you are eligible for extra time in an exam, please contact us at least two weeks before sitting the exam. You will be required to submit evidence of your eligibility for extra time for consideration.

What is the format and content of the A101 exam?

The entrance exam involves 125 single best answer questions, each question has 5 possible answers. The exam runs for 150 minutes following your MMI. Further information on the exam can be found here.

What are my options if I am unsuccessful in the RPEL entrance exam?

Applicants who are unsuccessful in the RPEL entrance exam, but who score well in the interview, may be considered for an alternative offer for our standard medicine degree, A100.

Those who do not score well in the exam or interview will receive a reject decision.

How will I complete the Graduate Entry Medicine RPEL entrance exam in clearing?

Applicants will be expected to physically attend the Bangor campus to sit the A101 RPEL route entrance exam.
